Sudden power outage – causes and tips
Possible reasons for a sudden power outage:
Self-consumption is too high.
Damaged fuses or a circuit breaker has tripped.
A power cable has been disconnected because of construction work.
A short circuit has occurred at a transformer station or substation.
A high-voltage cable has been damaged.
There is major disruption in Switzerland or Europe.
What to do during a power outage:
Switch off stoves, irons, drills, circular saws, vacuum cleaners, modems, sound systems, PCs, TVs, etc., otherwise these devices will automatically switch on when the electricity is turned back on.
Lamps can remain switched on and should work again safely when the power is turned back on.
Freezers or fridges only need to be emptied once the power has been off for approx. 6 hours. Do not open them, as this will allow the cold to escape.
A landline will work for a maximum of four hours without electricity. Devices that connect to the mains power supply will not work.
Tell older residents and children about the power outage.
