Installation inspection is prescribed by law. It’s regulated by the Ordinance on Low-voltage Installations (NIV). With our installation check, we ensure your electrical installations and equipment are in perfect working order and that there is no danger to people or property.
Work inspection
We check that all work complies with Swiss working standards (WV-CH). We cover all costs for these inspections during normal working hours.
Approval inspection
When you hire a licensed electrical installation company to carry out electrical installations, the work is completed with a final inspection and the proof of safety (SiNa). This documentation is also issued by the electrical installation company.
For electrical installations with an inspection interval of less than 20 years – such as offices, shops, workshops, etc. – you as the owner are responsible for carrying out an additional acceptance inspection within six months of approval of the electrical installation work. For this inspection, you can hire an independent inspection company or an accredited inspection body, which will also provide you with an additional proof of safety (SiNa).
The original version of the proof of safety will remain in your possession. A copy will be sent to us.
Periodic inspection
We will periodically require you, as the owner of a system, to provide us with a new proof of safety (SiNa). Depending on the potential risk, this period may be one, three, five or 10 years, or 20 years for residential buildings.
Before your proof of safety can be issued, you must hire an independent inspection company or an accredited inspection body to carry out the inspection, note any defects and – after these defects have been removed by an electrical installer – issue your proof of safety.
The original version of the proof of safety will remain in your possession. A copy will be sent to us.
Random inspections
We randomly inspect a portion of the proof of safety documents (SiNa) we receive. If there are no defects, we are responsible for covering the cost of these inspections. If we do find defects, we will charge the owner for the costs of the inspection.
Reporting
Forms such as:
- Technical connection request (TAG)
- Installation notification (IA)
- Equipment order (AB)
- Proof of safety (SiNa)/Measurement and inspection protocol in accordance with NIV
can be submitted online in the grid area of the city of Zurich using ElektroForm 15 or ElektroForm online.
For help or further information about ElektroForm online, click here (in German).
Work inspection/meter installation procedure
The “Work inspection/meter installation procedure” clearly states that, in accordance with WV-CH 2018 Art. 2.5(6), only the responsible electrician may install and assume responsibility for the consumer unit fuse.
Disassembly of tariff equipment
When removing building supply lines, ewz will only disassemble tariff equipment when certain prerequisites have been met.

Installation/completion notification
Use the installation notification to inform us of new installations as well as expansions and changes to existing installations ≥ 3.6 kVA. Assembly or disassembly of measuring or control equipment is carried out after receipt of the completion notification. The order must be submitted early enough that at least three working days are available for execution.
Technical connection request for:
- Electrical heat/heat pumps
- Power generation plants (EEA)
- Systems with grid feedback
- Energy storage systems
- Charging stations for electric vehicles
Use the connection request to notify us of any devices and systems that are causing harmonics, voltage variations/flicker or asymmetries before the installation notification.
Proof of safety (SiNa)
The proof of safety confirms that the system has been created and inspected in accordance with generally accepted engineering standards. (Form – VSE, SiNa 2002/10)
